Three ways to get your home sale-ready

If you’re planning to sell your home, you’ve got so much to think about. Not just in terms of securing a sale, but also uprooting your life and starting afresh in a new property, possibly in a new town or city. If you’re looking for a fairly swift sale, maybe because you’ve already found a new place to buy, there are some key things you need to do. Here are three ways to help you get your home sale-ready and snapped up!

Step 1

Bag yourself a great agent

Key to selling your home is having a great realtor, who knows the business inside and out. Finding one perfect can come through word of mouth, so try and get a recommendation from a work colleague, friend or relative. Draw up a shortlist, chat with them, and see what they can offer you. Don’t panic and sign up with one immediately, take some time to think about it, and to determine whether they’re the best choice for your circumstances.

Stand out in the street

When you put your home up for sale, one of the things the realtor is going to what is some great photos, or even video of the outside of your home. So, make sure that your property gives off an excellent first impression. You’re going to want to make sure that the structure of the house looks great. You need to paint the window frames if they’re wooden and looking tired. You’ll want to replace any missing roof tiles, get the guttering cleared out, and any painted surfaces need to be looking fresh and clean. Fresh and clean also goes for the windows glass too!

Don’t forget the garden! If you have outside space, make sure it’s looking like it’s full of life, rather than about to take its last breath. Make sure any grass is looking lush and green, and not bald in patches. Get rid of any horrible looking weeds in the flower beds, or between paving slabs, and ensure you don’t have any garbage laying around. Sell from the inside

Once you’ve made that great first impression on potential buyers as they walk up to the front door, you also need to make sure that what’s on the other side of it also wows them.
If you’re one of those people who likes clutter and is not the tidiest, then it’s probably time for a good spring clean! First of all, have a look around and throw out any garbage you don’t need. Then think about making each of the rooms look fab. Remove any bits that don’t need to be there. You’ll want to try and keep the rooms looking elegant, but simple and clean – so that potential buyers can imagine themselves living there.

It goes without saying that you need to have clean floors and carpets, and any paintwork or wallpaper needs to be looking the business. In the kitchen and bathroom, the surfaces should be gleaming.
